Saving these little lives meant so much to me, nothing is more meaningful to me than animal welfare.
I have always loved cats; they seem to gravitate towards me. I am often called the crazy cat lady of the family, and I don’t mind a bit.
So it seemed to be fate when one night on a trip to Subway I noticed a skinny little girl running behind the store, no collar, ribs showing.
My partner was hesitant for to follow her although I just knew I had to when I asked the store owner if I could check behind his store for a homeless cat he was perplexed, although let me look.
Nothing could have prepared me for what I found, the tiniest little tabby kitten with her eyes closed. I picked her up walked straight back into the store and stated: “I'm going to need a box.” All in all, we found four kittens, although the mother ran away, I wasn’t ready to give up on her just yet, and I tempted her back by leaving a kitten alone to cry, she couldn’t resist, and I had her.
At home I fed her and made her feel safe, she was the sweetest thing, and you could just tell she was so thankful for the food. I knew I had to help this family, although I did not have the means or the know how to ethically re-home a litter of kittens. That is when I contacted A Mini Rescue; I offered to foster the family if they helped with the vetting and finding homes.
I was so happy when they agreed, the next eight weeks of their lives went by so fast, and they turned into the most beautiful cats. Three found their homes, Sootie, Puddin and Boots, one did not. Although he had interest, no one wanted to adopt him, that gave me a long time to bond.
I am happy to report little Bandit the kitten I found behind the Subway in North Lakes is now mine forever. Abby their mother is still searching for forever home, we won't give up until she has the perfect one.
Fostering has so many highs and lows, watching them grow and become little independent and loving cats is fantastic, although watching them leave isn’t as great, although at the end of the day you still know that without you, they would never have had the chance at a wonderful life.
It is something every single pet lover should do; fostering is one of the best things you can do to help animals in need, and who knows, you might just fall in love.
